The Hours
In 2004 Ant Genn & Martin Slattery decided to form a band & The Hours was born. Their musical exploits have been fused together to create an indie-band that is gaining critical & celebrity acclaim all round. Genn, formerly with Elastica & then Pulp, & Slattery, ex-Black Grape have created an album of melodic & beautiful music with big choruses that you have to turn up loud & sing your heart out to (cue ‘Ali In The Jungle’ all about that famous fight). The next single to be released is ‘Love You More’ which is taken from the debut album ‘Narcissus Road’ out now.

Arcade Fire – Intervention (album out 5/3/07)
The Montreal music maestros return with the follow-up to ‘Funeral’, the 2004 album that put them on the map claiming the experimental indie flag with it. Again they have excelled themselves, the album ‘Neon Bible’ (which was released on March 5th) is a beautiful collection of masterpieces, gallantly epic in a style which is untouchable.

Mark Ronson ft. Daniel Merriweather – Stop Me (2/4/07)
This is the first track to be taken from Ronson’s new album which is released on 16th April & it’s a beautiful juxtaposition of verse & melody. Already B-listed at Radio 1 & a record of the week, indications are that this will be a big hit for the super-cool producer.

Rihanna ft. Sean Paul – Break It ril 07)

A dancehall anthefor the bling generation, this collaboration between glossy Rihanna & master-of-plaits Sean Paul is the 4th single to be taken from Jay-Z’s protégé’s album ‘A Girl Like Me’. This hooky chorus is definitely one for the booty-shaking dancefloor.

Sweet Is The Night – Electric Light Orchestra
Written by Birmingham-born Jeff Lynne and taken from his group’s hugely successful Out Of The Blue album, this eulogy to the hours of darkness is a melodic masterpiece with a soaring chorus. Even stripped of Jeff’s hallmark string-laden production, it’s a song crying out to be covered.

Teardrops – Womack & Womack
Womack & Womack are ‘soul royalty’, a brother of the legendary Bobby Womack and the daughter of Sam Cooke. This track was a No.3 UK single in 1988 & is the ultimate disco song. Ladies, get round those handbags…

The Metros – Education Part 2
The Metros are ‘four lads brimming with chippy bravado, wallowing in a lyrical wit and in possession of a wisdom waaaaaaaaaaay beyond their years’. Brand spanking new & signed to 1965 Records a la View, their sound jams together Ian Drury & the Blockheads and Squeeze in spectacular anarchic style & this is a nice little taster for you. Already played on Jo Whiley’s show, ‘Education Part 2’ has set the scene for a band that is definitely one to watch.
